Raoul Berke

It is difficult to talk about one's art without seeming pretentious. I've been doing gourd art for seven years, since returning to New Mexico from two years in New Zealand. I'd like to say I was inspired by
Maori art...but that would be a lie; I didn't like it too much.

This is my fun; I've only started selling my stuff the last few years; that's not so much fun. My recent inspiration is Pueblo pottery, especially Zia and Acoma. My other inspiration is geometry and playing with the compass. The most enjoyable aspect is "working in The Zone." (See? Pretentious!) Finishing a piece and thinking, "Where did that come from?"

I recently became a Social Security/Medicare Geezer. Now, I need to retire from at least one of my two day jobs: Part-time Jungian Analyst in Santa Fe or part-time Psychiatrist in Las Vegas, NM.
