Anne Kinne

I have been making or doing things with my hands for over 40 years. As I think back to my childhood, that’s what I was doing – I was crafting. I was making something else from something I started with. Transformation. That is what I do, what I enjoy, and who I am.

Six years ago, I began gourding. It was a chance meeting as I wandered into a gourd studio in Borrego Springs, California. I immediately fell in love with gourds, buying my first ‘raw’ gourd not an hour later. I have been taking classes and teaching ever since. My love of music inspires me to make musical instruments out of gourds. These gourds are a musical form of art. Two worlds connected.

Gourds are a very forgiving entity. This is good, because I am not a linear crafts womyn. The work evolves as I progress, one idea leaping into another and yet another. The process changes, transformation occurs, it just happens, somehow.

My home and studio are nestled among the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of Pecos, surrounded by the beauty and tranquility of Nature.
